Serving Famlies in Asheville and Across Western North Carolina

I’m the woman and doula behind Den Mother Birth.

Eleven years ago I experienced what it felt like to be pregnant and not heard.

To give birth and learn that the village, was no where to be found.

I never wanted anyone to feel dismissed, unimportant, or forgotten again.

I started my own journey of working hard to support the women in my circle and community through information, and empowerment. After years of being a behind the scenes “birth-nerd”, I knew the calling of birthwork could no longer be ignored.

As a doula I provide you with the all the tools for you to feel empowered and autonomous in your pregnancy, birth and postpartum journey. I am there to hold you through the hard times, talk through your fears and worries, and show you there is room for laughter and joy alongside it all. I am there to weather the storm with you, and be your anchor.

I happily support birth in all settings, and families, and honor all choices that you decide for your birth. I serve the Western North Carolina area, and would love to chat to see if we would be a good fit.‍ ‍

What people are saying

  • “Ashley was a really great addition to my birth team. My birth plan didn’t go as “planned” and took many VERY difficult turns. She was there every step of the way providing a supportive and comforting presence through each tough decision I had to make. She provided support to my partner and I through my whole pregnancy and built a great relationship with us. This provided me a lot of trust during my labor and delivery, especially when making the hard decisions- I would always turn to Ashley and hear her thoughts on the situation at hand. Ashley never responded with coercion or “her opinion” but would always reply with options and feedback, giving me the tools to make the best informed decisions I could for me and my baby. She was always supportive of my desires. She also reassured me through the emotional rollercoaster of my labor and delivery that “two things can be true at once” and this helped me accept the true and deepest surrender of what was out of my control and focus on what was- ultimately doing whatever I needed to do for my son and his health. This was my first pregnancy and child, so I really appreciated Ashley’s support through the prenatal journey, labor & delivery (about 17 hours Ashley was with me), as well as postpartum. Alongside my partner and mom, Ashley showed up by my side with her positive and loving vibes during the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life (and probably will ever do), and this truly meant the world to me. Being a doula can be a heavy role but Ashley is doing that good work- pregnant woman deserve her as their doula and I’ll be forever grateful she was a part of my journey. I love that she’s a part of my story and have a new friend as well! She’ll be a lovely part of so many other people’s journey as well and what an honor!”
