My Story
I imagine what it must be like to live as a pack. To nest in a den. A safe haven, a warm space, and cove that is yours that serves to protect you and your young voraciously. We are so often alone as we walk throughout pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and motherhood, left to trailblaze a path of our own making. We drown in information as we are thirsting for community and knowledge. I believe that no one woman should be left to carry all the weight alone. We are made to hold each other, support one another, and rise together.
My children have celestial names, and that has taken root in many creative and personal aspects of my lives of the years. While birth is undoubtedly a cosmic experience I knew that at the base level, the work we put in as women during birth is a deep primal aspect. We bare down, we go non verbal, we withdraw from the world around us and turn inward into a known sense.
The name Den Mother Birth was born in an ode to my own children. They are certified wild, vivacious creatures, who alight a fire and fierceness in me unlike anything I had ever known before. They are simultaneously, for lack of better words, obsessed with wolves. Our entire household is scattered with well loved figurines, pack drawings, and even some accessories to don the part when in full character.
I have taken Embodied Childbirth Education classes at Flow of Life, here in Asheville. As well as their DONA approved Doula Training course. I have received additional training in lactation support, as accessibility to proper breastfeeding support is a passion of mine, and am in the midst of becoming a Certified Somatic Womb Practitioner. I am also a writer with years of experiences in creative and copy writing, and am currently shifting my focus to grant writing and non-profit work. I am blessed to call the Blue Ridge Mountains home, and spend most nights listening to the crackling of a fire while snuggling up with my husband, and reading yet another novel.
May we all be complex and dual natured as Mother Earth has given us the blueprint to be. At once fierce and compassionate, fiery and tender, untamed and soft, a reckoning and a home.
